At Clopton Nursery Trust we intend to nurture the children into happy and confident individuals who are independent, lifelong learners.
We have createda calm, safe environment that engages and inspires the children and from their interests we plan in the moment, responding to children’s next steps and needs as they arise.
We follow the Early Years Statutory Framework. This Framework specifies the requirement for learning and development in the Early Years and provides prime and specific areas of learning we must cover in our curriculum.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language development
- Specific Areas
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Children experience the 7 areas of learning through a balance of child led and adult led activities. All activities are play based and are either planned for through the continuous provision (child led) or invitations to experiences and opportunities (adult led).
We plan in the moment.Planning in the momentis all about seizing the opportunity for children to progress. Based on what the children are already deeply involved in, practitioners use quality interactions to draw out the children’s knowledge and build on it there and then (in the moment). This means that the practitioner uses skills to observe what the child is doing and needs to do next, assesses the teachable moment from the child’s perspective and know when to intervene and when to stand back and observe.
Planning in the moment is all about capturing the moment of engagement and running with it to make sure the children progress.
recognise that every child is a unique individual and we celebrate and welcome differences within our nursery community.
Our initial interactions with the children and their families identifies children’s prior learning from previous settings and their experiences at home.
We aim to provide first-hand learning experiences, whilst allowing the children to be happy confident individuals.
The continuous provision is planned by the staff in response to the children’s interests, skills and prior experiences. It supports children to develop key life skills such as independence; innovation; creativity, enquiry; analysis and problem solving.
Our focus at Clopton Nursery Trust is the Prime areas of the EYFS. To develop children’s skills and values in these areas we offer a variety of experiences and opportunities. These include:
- Children having an opportunity to work independently, work collaboratively with their friends and work with a member of staff.
- We share a range of healthy snacks, learn about the importance of a healthy balanced diet.
- We use a mindful discipline approach to promote positive attitudes to both learning and behaviour.
- Participating in sports activities and exercise to learn about the impact of an active lifestyle.
- We encourage independence and teach life skills such as dressing and meeting their own toileting, feeding and hygiene needs.
These will reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success.
Planning in the moment ensures that the needs of individual children including SEND and disadvantaged, and small groups of children can be met. This could be through targeted inventions or the continuous provision. In this way it can be seen to be impacting in a very positive way on children’s outcomes and prepares them for the next phase. We teach our children to believe in themselves, belong to the nursery and wider community and help them to reach their potential. We endeavour for children to be ready for their next step whether it be the next room at nursery or Reception class and have all our values embedded by the time they leave Nursery. These are: Respect, Positive regard for all, Actively caring, Teamwork and Perseverance.
- Positive regard for all
- Actively caring
